For some time now laser technology has been used in the area of jet engine construction, because the laser allows for weld joints that withstand the highest material loads. The advantages are the marginal danger of cracking the material, while keeping its ductility, and the very small heat affected zone.

Turbine stator and rotor blades are components exposed to the highest thermal, chemical and dynamic loads and to temperatures of up to 1400° Celsius. With a laser parts damaged by erosion or thermal fatigue can be put back into mint condition.
